Hi folks,

We have an IP406v2/Voicemail Pro here at the college where I work. On the rare ocassions when we are closed due to weather, we would like to have a short "closed" message play no matter which of our lines are called and then have the call ring to the number they tried to reach (so it can go to their voicemail).

Is it possible to play an announcement at the beginning of every inbound call and then send the call to its destination? Let me rephrase that: is it possible to do this WITHOUT editing the users or call routes or short codes one by one each time the weather causes us to close?

I can easily insert a message at the beginning of the "Main" number message, but we have DID also and I cannot figure out how to get all of those numbers to play the message too.

Thank you,
Greg Eytcheson

you can use the header action in voicemail pro. just record you closed greeting and make it your prompt in the header action. you then can copy and paste the header before any of your menus that you wish.

gknight1, thank you for your reply, but you lost me. I searched for "Header Action" in the Voicemail Pro help and got nothing. I searched for "Header" and just got references to the pre-recored WAV files that ship with VMPro (referring to message headers). I searched Google for

'"Voicemail Pro" "Header Action"'

and got nothing.

Sorry if I am being dense, but I don't know what a Header Action is, and there is no reference to it anywhere in the docs or on Google.

I know how to insert a WAV file before any others in the list of Entry Prompts on a Menu in Voicemail Pro, and did that last time the weather was bad, but that only covered the main number to the campus. Most (99%) of our DID numbers do not have items under "Specific Start Points" in Voicemail Pro and therefore do not have any "menu" to insert something into.

Am I missing something obvious? I just want every single call that hits my IP Office from an external line to hear a message before it continues on to its destination. Is that possible?

Thanks,
Greg

In V-mail Pro put a Generic action between the start point and your day or night menu. Go to properties of the generic action and click on the entry prompts tab then click the + sign to record greeting. Type the name of the wav then record a prompt and listen to it then click close. Then connect start point to Generic action and connect generic action next result to the day or night menu. Save and make live.

"The lack of understanding is the root of all problems

and if you don't have a menu, i believe you can put a wave file in the start point.

Okay, I think the clouds have lifted. I did not realize that the "Default Start Points" applied to all calls that did not have a "Specific Start Point".

I tried adding a Prompt to the "Default Start Point > Leave" item yesterday as a test, but may not have given it time to become active after the Save and Make Live.

I'll try that again this evening and if that doesn't work, I'll try putting a Generic Action with a Prompt and then linking it to the Start Point.

Thanks for your help!
Greg
