Following on from Rob999's post last December:

I am using XP Professional and get the same error message "Unable to read the Server Registry, or you are not a member of the OLAP Administrators Group".

Do the comments re XP Home apply to XP Pro too? i.e. I need a server type OS to run Analysis Services?

Thanks.

I am not sure with XP, but it is true with NT and 2000.

You can run Analysis Services on XP PRO. If you go into
[blue]Start>All Programs>Administrative Tools>Computer Management[/blue]

and select Local Users and Groups then go into the Groups you should see a group Called OLAP Administrator. Add you local or domain account to the the olap admin group.

Thanks MDXer.

I have checked the OLAP Admin group and I am in that group.

So I attempted to start Analysis Services again. This time I could register my laptop as a server, but it is empty i.e. the demo Foodmart stuff isn't there. I thought it was there by default and doesn't need creating as a new database.

Could it be an install error? [ponder]

I have AS running well on XP Pro, did you install the latest SP for AS?

Make syre you have the SP 3 for AS installed.

Shab is right. There is a SP3 for the database and a SP3 for Analysis Services. I'm pretty sure you need both, but you definitely need the one for Analysis Services.

Problem : "Unable to read the Server Registry, or you are not a member of the OLAP Administrators Group".With SP2

In Windows XP even after having administartor under group OLAP Administrator.

Add Everyone to this OLAP Administrators Group. It works fine.
It is a shortcut.
