I,m trying to use either analog port 7 or 8 on the ATM combo card for paging using a Bogan TAM. I have DT on both ports, can call other stations it's programmed as an extension but when I call the extension it's busy. When I call another station the display reads no user. I've only merged my changes. What am I missing? Thanks

Did you go to the Extensions>select that extension > on the Analogue tab change it to Paging Speaker?

You should also create a shortcode for Dial Paging

Let us know what you find.

The Bogen may expect dry contact closure. If so you'll need to short the second TR (black/yellow) pair and put a 600 ohm resistor across the first TR pair.

I'm not having a problem with the Bogan. All I need is the analog port to ring when I call it.Right now it's constant busy, and the extension is programmed .

If the extension says "no user" you have not created a user for that extension. Go to users and create a user with that extension number.

The ext.does exists as a user and extension. That has to be the problem but I know I checked. I'll double check on Monday. Thanks

It needs the resistor or it won't work. That is why you are getting the busy sigmal as the IPO sees the port as off hook. A pack of 5 is 1.00 at Radioo Shack. If they don't have the 600, the 680 will also work. Get a biscuit jack, install the resistor on red and green then put that in between you analog port and the trunk port on the Bogen. Won't work without it.

You have merged after creating the user, the user will be logged on to the phone only after a reboot or when you use the login feature, then the user must have a login code.

also if your device expects a ring then you cannot use the "dial paging" feature or set the port as paging port.
All you need to do is have a user logged on to it and call it done.
no fumbling with 600 Ohm resistors or shorting out stuff this is a plug and call setup

WOW a lot of mumbo jumbo here. All I want to do is have a anolog port ring. I know what to do after that.

It is not mumbo jumbo, it is electronics and it is what we deal with every time we install an IPO to a legacy paging system. Paging systems are not all alike. Some require dry contact closure supplied by the PBX, some do not. Some work off ground start, some loop start. You need to know what you are doing here. The Bogen TAM-B2 does not require DCC. Ok, so what about the IPO then? If you tell the IPO that an analog extension is a paging port then it expects to see a device at the end of the analog extension port. Does that remote device have a way of doing this? If it does not you will get .. ta da .. a busy signal. How to fix this? You install a resistor in parallel across T/R so the IPO now sees something at the other end. You have now opened a channel and are holding it open which is what the IPO expects. There is no industry standard involved. But you can make anything work if you know what each side requires. What you need to do is determined by what each side requires. In your case, you need a resistor so the IPO sees a device on hook at the other end and what it then does is open the speaker port which goes through to the Bogen. No matter how you want it to work does not matter. It is how the IPO wants it to work that matters. You need to install the resistor, set the analog extension for paging then reboot. In that order.

No mumbo jumbo if you just read Intrigrant and Westi's responses. Follow those and you're done.

It looks like Bogen TAM-B can be connected to a loop or ground start trunk or an analog station configured as an analog station (most often used for Centrex). IF the OP is really using analog station port and wants to simply call the analog station, all he/she needs to do is configure a user for the analog station and all will work - no resistors, etc. As many of us know, this limits the functionality of paging, but that wasn't the question posed.

Thanks for all the input. Going back my 1st 2 posts, my problem was a constant busy the analog port was not ringing. That was my problem and that was my only problem. Sometimes we all get caught up in making a problem more complicated than it really is, KISS is how we all need to approach solving the problems. Keep It Simple Stupid. I solved the problem by saving the data immediately and not merging. That's all it was. Now that it rings I do see that the IPO needs to have the 600 ohm resistor to work with the Bogan. Thanks again for the help.

Saving the data immediately is a reboot which we all said needed to be done. Glad it worked.
