Analog Phones with certain ringer equivalence will not work with new ONSp Mitel 3300 AX and SX200 AX

Morning,

Yesterday I was told that analog phones with certain ringer equivalence will not work with the new 24 port ONSp cards in the Mitel 3300 and SX200 systems. The phones will work at first but if a message waiting was sent to the phone and a guest then tried accessing his voice mail, the phone would no longer be able to ring and it would lock the port on the 24 port ONSp card it was programmed on.

Afterwards, if someone tried calling that extension from the console, it would appear as "Locked"

Has anyone heard of this issue or dealt with it?

Haven't run across that particular issue, but I have had problems connecting to an external loud bell because the ring voltage is too low. The fix for that was to install a Viking RG-4 "ring booster" on the line. Viking says those are compatible with ONS MWI, so it may be worth a shot with your issue.

Note that ringer equivalence is cumulative for each device on the line.

In a hotel with multiple devices on the line you must ensure the sum of the REN is not greater than that supported.

Wow, so you're saying that if say 5 ONS phones have combined REN sum of 8; problems will occur?

Even with Telco provided dialtone at a full -48V and 105V AC ringer you would have issues with REN of 8

The magic number was typically around 6

So no more than say 6 active phones with a total sum of 3 REN without problems?

6 phones on a single line would definitely be pushing limits

I would be thinking about disconnecting the MWI lamps on some of the phones to ensure that some would work

often in hotels they will only have a single phone with a MWI and on multiple phones in rooms will have the ringer disabled on some. I guess this is why.
