I've got an analog fax device connected to the white/slate pins of the UCx Gateway and have enabled analog ports; how do I set up this device as an extension in the UCx Server? I want it to detect fax and then direct the fax signal to the analog device for incoming faxes. Of course, I need the device to use a trunk line to send out faxes.

To set up an extension for the analog port:
[li]Go to PBX - PBX Configuration - Extensions[/li]
[li]Select Generic Nortel Device[/li]
[li]Enter the desired extension number for the fax in User Extension and a name in Display Name[/li]
[li]Open the MAC Address drop-down box and select the device "Analog - Main/FXS 1" (white/slate is the first FXS port)[/li]
[li]Save the extension configuration using the Submit button[/li]
To direct faxes to this extension:
[li]Go to PBX - PBX Configuration - Inbound Routes[/li]
[li]Select the inbound route used for the trunk(s) on which you want to detect faxes[/li]
[li]Set the option Detect Faxes to Yes[/li]
[li]Select the appropriate fax detection type (Sip for SIP trunks or for gateways connected to your UCx server via SIP trunks, Dahdi for analog/PRI trunks on an analog/PRI expansion card installed in your UCx server[/li]
[li]Select the analog port extension (created in the first step) as the Fax Destination[/li]
[li]Save the inbound route configuration using the Submit button[/li]

On the UCx Gateway, I've enabled the Analog port (1). I've created an extension (30) for the fax machine and assigned it to the first analog port (A1). I've enabled detect fax on the inbound route to forward fax signals to extension 30. The wiring on the 66-block is connected to the white/slate wires. When testing outbound faxing, it will connect to the called number for 2 seconds and then disconnect. When I connect a butt set to the fax cord and dial a number, I can connect to the called number normally and it does not disconnect while I am on-hook. Is there a setting I am missing for the fax device/extension? Why does the fax connect for 2 seconds and then drop?

We have recently (i.e. last week) made enhancements to the UCx Digital Gateway so that Modem and Fax communication is much more reliable when using one of the 4 analog ports on the Digital Gateway.

To pick up these enhancements, just do a software update on the Digital Gateway itself. The enhancements include disabling both, the Echo Canceler and the Automatic Gain Control as well as reducing the Transmit volume for these 4 analog ports

A web page is being created to allow maintenance personnel to adjust these settings as well as the settings for the Digital phones attached to the UCx Digital Gateway.
