Version 11.0.0 Essential edition, one VCM32, 2 phone 8 cards with analog daughter boards. I am do not have the IP extensions in place yet, and I am trying to pre-record the AA and group on-hold messages. Any time I use an analog phone set to try and dial the codes for the recordings (*8401, *91400, *92400) all I can get are fast busy tones on the analog set. Long story, replacing an older 8.0 system, I know I should have done the upgrade procedure, already smacked my own hand a dozen times for screwing this up. Now I have the equipment here and I have to find a way to make it work. What am I missing here? For the record, this is the only IPO I have out of 28 that uses IP phone sets. all my others are digital sets.
Thanks in advance, and please be gentle! :)

I would check the shortcodes and make sure the *8401 shortcode was created and not deleted. It should be *84XX/Auto Attendant/"AA:"N".4". I have seen where that got deleted, and possibly even didn't get created for some reason. Also verify that the voicemail is running (can check in SSA or just try dialing *17). Those are the two main reasons I could see getting busy tone trying to dial the AA greeting SCs.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

Placing a R11 config onto a R8.0 control unit can cause this (not saying this is your problem, but it could be). If this is the case, you should have errors stating that there are licenses missing. If memory serves, this scenario would render the phones useless, until the license issue is resolved. In that case, you can either purchase and install the licenses or use a new control unit and upgrade it prior to using a phone on the system. A new control unit is probably cheaper than upgrade license (if I remember correctly).

Sometimes, I feel like a kindergartner missing out on recess, because certain kids won't shut up and get in line.

Thanks for the replies, guys. The whole system is new, with the exception of the phones. The old system is in place running the phones and working well. I have the new IPO box, modules, license, etc here on the bench. Double-checking the short code list, all are there. All modules are showing the R11 software.

Also, looking at System Status while dialing from ext. 316 (analog), any * dial I do shows incompatible on the system status while I am looking at the extension I am dialing from.

So, I plugged in a DS-8 module in the remaining slot and can make my recordings. Sheesh. Just have to get the setup done and then remove the DS-8 edit the config accordingly. Still doesn't explain why the analog extensions cannot make recordings for the groups or AA's. Once I get the unit in place, I just hope the IP sets can do the recordings in the future.

That is very odd that a digital phone works but analog doesn't work. Maybe a user shortcode overriding everything else?

At least you can get the greetings done now.

May be that the analog doesn't have a user and is barred.

Thought of that one, too, budbyrd, but I made sure to build the user for the extension I was using. Still scratching my head, but at least I have it done now. Oh, and the digital card/ set combination worked first try without a user built.

Found the solution! ME! I was using two different analog set, but of the same vendor and model number. Watching System Monitor I could see briefly that it would say incompatible when I dialed the star key. Tried another analog set from a different vendor and it all works like it should. FYI, the model that does not work properly is the AEGIS 2510D from Cetis Group.
Thanks for the input, folks, all is well in Mississippi again.

Wow would not have guessed that thanks for posting the resolution. Pink for you.
