Analog Extension to H323 Extension

I was wondering what the best practice is to convert a user from an analog extension to a H323 extension / VOIP phone.

Currently I'm having an issue where I have to completely remove the user for the old extension to delete so I can switch it over to a H323 extension which would be fine, but all the users that have them on their button programming as a 'User' dial button it clears them out and I have to re-add that user back to all the phones.

I guess what I'm asking would be how to remove an analog extension from a user and IPO so that I can create a new H323 extension in it's place.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Renumber the analogue extn, then right click> create new extn> H323, assign old extn number from the analogue you just renumbered, save, done!
