A customer has an analog line and they want it to always use line 2. Also, they don't want to dial 9. Is it possible to always make that analog extension grab line 2 when it is off hook?

I know I can program a different shortcode to grab just line 2, but it would be great to do it automatically.

user short code

code ?
feature dial
number .
line group (make this your outgoing group for line 2)

This will work.

BUT it is not supported in later versions

I'll repeat that

it is not supported in later versions

and again

Me, I was flabbergasted when I found that...

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Seriously Matt.

what is the supported way of doing it then???

I have a couple of sites with 2 PRI's. 1 each for half the system.

Since they won't Tennant/Area the IPO I can't see any other way.

i am guessing you learned the hard way matt...

yes, i am curious as well, what shorcode would you use in its place?

Not supported in later versions, as in 4.2 on? Or does that include 4.1?

If you have 3.2 or lower, the above method will work. If you have 4.0 or higher, follow the below method.

These short codes will have to be assigned in the user shortcode of the fax user or create a Fax user rights and add fax members.

SC- ?D
Telephone- N
Feature- Dial
Line Group- 50: Main (This will be the ARS table you will have to create for your line 2 described below)

Put your line 2 in a seperate line group. Create a new ARS route changing the default line group to your line 2 group ID. Point your shortcode for the fax users to this ARS and you will be all set.

I can't see a reason apart from sending it to an ARS table rather than direct to a line group

Where I get stuck is

cut and paste 4.1.12 Manager help said:
?
Used on its own to create a short code match in the absence of any other short code match. Only supported as a system short code except for ?D below. For example, the system short code ?/./Dial/0 will route any dialing for which no other match is found to outgoing line group 0.

?D
This character combination makes a call to the defined phone number as soon as the user goes off-hook.

I don't see how ?D helps - have you tried it superjenks?

Jamie - I just plough on doing the way I've always done it using ?/./dial in the user shortcode.

However, the way I read the docs (brought to my attention by our disti) is that it ain't supported. I did try and get a case rasied, but failed.

Anyone else want to try?

when using ?D you have to put a telephone number in the tel number field and it will dial that number only.

I have just tried ? . dial 2 on 4.1 and it works for me.

I use the sc all the time. Infact, I double checked a running config on a 6 site scn where they dont want to dial the 9. It works like a charm. I have this working at about 10 sites or more. The ?D is also supported on the 3.2 and lower if my memory serves me correctly. Look at the is link and you will see its a supported method for going off hook immediately negating the dial 9 for out dialing.
