Hi all,
I've got BE 8.6 with several agents on Win2k server and HP Travan T20 SCSI drive. All backups were successful, but when I tried to restore some local files, the restore stopped with an error

Description:
A format inconsistency was encountered during a tape read operation on device "HP 1".

It'is interesting that this problem does not depends on the file size, and I can successfully restore files from the same tape which were backed up from another server on the network with no errors.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I am getting same error message when I try to restore a certain folder from tape. I can restore other folders no problem. The same folder gets backed up night after night without any problem. Any ideas?

I'm getting a similar message.. but my is happening at the verify stage of backing up (also on t20). Veritas solutions only mention this problem when trying to restore

Server has 2 drives (C & E).. error message occurs after verifying C and before starting E.. just bombs out and fails after the error.

anyone sorted this out?

Here is the relevant part of my logs:

I am also getting the same error message when at the verify stage. Does anyone have an answer to this problem?

At least I am not the only one getting this error )

but I have not found a fix yet, but If I do i'll post the fix up here.

I have "got round" the issue by having a server reboot.

we have since had successful backups.

weird one eh?

Did anyone find a good solution for this? We have this error as well in a brand new server with brand new tapes. But only on Wednesday. It's been driving me nuts!!

I'm also getting the message during the verify stage. And like GaryKearly the only work around at the moment is to reboot the server before I leave for the evening. This is not really an acceptable work around to have to reboot my server every evening to ensure a successful backup.

Anyone have any breakthroughs on this issue?

oh, I only had to reboot it the once to clear the error, since then it has been fine...

Same here. After one reboot it worked and has ever sense. BTW, Veritas help desk told me the drive needed to be replaced....

Myself also, after a reboot it's been working fine. But in one of our other locations this issue has been coming up as well. I'm going to have our local guy to a reboot and that should solve this issue (again).
