I am having an issue with one user being able to see images on a specific internal database entry in IE 6. When I went to clear the temporary internet files, the amount of disk space to use was set at something rediculous like 1192 MB. I'm assuming this is a certain percentage of the hard drive, even though it doesn't actually say 2% or whatever. But when I change it to say, 100 MB, it doesn't keep that setting, it just goes back to the 1192 MB. Does anybody have any idea
what the issue might be? And deleting the temp files didn't actually solve the problem so I'm not sure if it is still related to this setting not sticking.

log that user off and log in as a administrator. Manual browse to that user folder and delete the two temp folder.

Are you sure there's not a policy being enforced on that workstation or from the network where you work, that's reverting that setting back to the default?

I would log in as administrator and keep the workstation off the network. Change the setting, reboot, and log back in as the administrator (staying offline, of course). If the setting sticks, and it should, then it is a permissions issue.

If the PC is fairly new (less than 2 years old), then that temp setting isn't going to impact the overall performance of that laptop.

Well, non eof that helped me, unfortunately. There is no network policy on this machine. If I go into the administrator account I have the same problem. If I go into the registry and make the change there it doesn't stick, either. I did finally install Firefox, which did allow him to see this particular entry correctly in the database, but I don't really want to just leave this issue.

Are there any third party Security Software or "Tweaking" software being used on this machine that may have settings preventing you from making any changes to IE?

How To Reset Security Settings Back to the Defaults

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Internet Explorer.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
