Hi guys. I am directing this question to cdogg, paparazi and ceh4702.

One of you had discussed sometime in the recent past about AMD changing sockets again from 939 to something new. I am not sure which one of you it was, but I am pretty certain it was one of you.

Anyway, can any of you point me to where you read about this? Because I'd like to read more about it.

Cheers!

Yeah, 4 times. But I must admit that when I was getting started I was one of those "hardcore" tweakers who was constantly upgrading. Now I try to make it last 2-3 years before I upgrade.

I'm counting 8 since "97" and that's just my own personal PC's not the kids.
Bit sad really.
I found a bit of history on AMD CPU's etc interesting.

First Socket A CPU's:
650 Athlon (Thunderbird core) June 2000 and
Duron 600 (Spitfire core)June 2000
First 333fsb Athlons were infact based on the Barton core (Palomino was strickly 266fsb, larger almost square dye)

Socket A: June 2000 To Today
Athlon 650 to 1400 June 2000 to June 2001
Duron 600 to 950 June 2000 to June 2001
Duron 900 to 1300 May 2001 to January 2002
AthlonXP 1500+ to 2100+ October 2001 to March 2002
AthlonXP 1700+ to 2100+ April 2002 to June 2002
AthlonXP 1700+ to 2800+ June 2002 to October 2002
AthlonXP 2500+ to 3200+ January 2003 to May 2003
Sempron 2200+ to 3000+ June 2004

Some red letter dates for AMD:
500MHz Athlon introduced June 23, 1999
1000MHz Athlon introduced March 6, 2000
Athlon Thunderbird introduced August 28, 2000
Athlon XP (Palomino) introduced on October 9, 2001
mobile Athlon Thoroughbred announced on April 17, 2002

K7 series (1999–2005)

Athlon (Socket A) (Thunderbird) (2000)
