Hi All,
If you were to buy a new processor would you buy the Duron 900 or Athlon 900 and why?

Is there any real advantage of getting the Athlon chip over the Duron?

I am thinking of using the Abit K7A Mainboard, is this a good choice?

Thanks for your answers in advance

Easily go for the Athlon. Actually, having said that, if you don't mind spending a bit extra on an Athlon then got for one. Otherwise the good 'ol Duron does a decent job. I must admit, I don't think you'll notice hardly any difference on normal Windows stuff, it's just the games. I've seen some overclocked to some pretty staggering speeds.

Although they both run at the same speeds in Mhz, the Athlon can still out-perform the Duron because of the way it's manufactured. I won't go into how many million more transistors one has over the other etc because you can find that on the AMD website.

As for the Mo Bo, well I do like the Abit boards, I've got one myself (KT7A) and it's darn good for the cash.

Hope that helps in some small way! :)

Athlon, without a doubt. The Duron was designed to compete with the Celeron, both of which are manufactured for the lower end of the market. You get what you pay for and the Athlon is worth the price difference.

You may also consider the Asus A7 series motherboards. I'm not knocking Abit but Asus is a another very high quality motherboard manufacturer. They have very good mobo manuals also, my A7V manual is 116 pages long.
