I have recently taken over mgt of an Exchange Org. One site, 4 servers all running 5.5 sp4.

In my Connections window I have 7 connectors.
1 Internet Mail Service
3 cc:Mail(server name)
3 MS Mail (server name)

I know what the Internet connector is for and I can view tabs.

What are the other connectors for? I am not able to view any tabs. I get a message that I must specify an admin mailbox before the MS Connector can run.

I assume that these are not running.

All my recipients connect through Outlook 98, 2000 or XP.

I have a few POP3 clients.

No lotus notes or any other mail systems.

I am planning on removing a member server from the site (not the first one). I am trying to cover all my bases.

If none of your systems are running cc:mail and ms mail they can be ignored. cc:mail and ms mail are loaded by default during Exchange 5.5 install. This for compatibility during a migration from one of those mail systems. To remove them you will need to run the Exchange install again on each server. Un-check cc:mail and ms mail boxes. This will un-install the connectors. Then go to site addressing under configuration to remove the cc:mail and ms mail address from the users.

A quick way to verify that you are not using them is shut down these services for a week to see if anyone complains about mail delivery. If not, then do as before and uninstall as suggested.
