Am I out of digital phone lines?

Let me explain the issue and maybe someone will have some idea of what is going on. Pardon me if my terminology is a bit inaccurate.

I am trying to find open ports on our system. I'm pretty sure we are starting to run short. I go into the maintenance section of the phone configuration and have found a few ports that are labelled as unequipped. So I then punch down into these ports and they ring when a call comes in from an outside line.

I'm assuming these are just 'lines' that are used for outgoing/incoming calls and should not be punched directly into.

Let me explain the reason why I'm not sure if I'm out of internal lines now. We had a working internal extension hooked up to a jack. I had then turned set relocation on and moved them to another location. I then plugged in another phone to that jack thinking ( I may be way off targe here ) it would automatically pick up a port that wasn't being used. What I mean is my understanding was that if a port is in limbo, just floating around in the system, it would automatically be picked up by the next available phone.

Anyways after I plugged the phone in it proceeded to ring when incomming calls to our organization occured even though it worked as an internal line before.

Do you think I'm out of internal lines and need to buy a new module? Is there some kind of configuration setting that seems to be set incorrectly? Or do you think I should just call a technician and have them come out?

Thank you so much for any help!

Is a working phone port with a line App on it. you can't punch a didital phone on a trunk and have it work. If your a non-tech you should not use autoset relocation as things can go wrong and it is beound your capibilities to fix any problems. you should get some training. I always move a crossconnect to move a phone, makes it a lot easier to keep track of things.

Whats your software,Hows your blocks marked,Some people mark there blocks with exts numbers or with ports,I always mark them with port numbers because you cant change them, Dns you can,Like acewarlock said, set reloction will come back and haunt you, Your records will be a mess

If you moved a phone with set relo on the info of that phone should of moved with it .Then you connected a new phone in its place it will come up as an extention. If the phone has never been used before it will take the next avaliable extention number. What has happened is the default for a phone that has never be programed is line 1 and 2 are programed to the phone. You will need to go into programming and remove them.
Just like the others in this forum said set relocation can cause problems if your not carefull.
You mite want to call a tech to come out if you do not know how to program the system.

I don't have auto set relocation on. I have to turn it on to move a phone and then I immediately turn it off following the move.

I was just assuming that a phone would pick up an open port(extension) as it has done it the past.

The blocks are all marked with the port numbers at the main junction. Then there are individual blocks on each floor that correspond w/ a block in the basement. Meaning there is a bloack labeled 1 - 25 on floor one that corresponds w/ a block in the basement that is labeleld 1-25. The second floor has a block of 26 - 50..and so on.

The blocks in the junction in the basement that are labeleled with port numbers have phone wire connecting them to the blocks labelled 1 - 25, etc...

I have minor experience with programming the system. I've set up mailboxes, changed DN's, set page zones, simple things like that.

Is it easy to change the default to the phone so they will not be defaulting to lines 1 and 2 when I set up a new phone? Where in System programming would I do it. The system I am working on does not have a graphical interface to it so I would have to do it through the phone.

Thanks again guys.

syukna,

Sounds like the block you're looking at labelled 1-25 is a FEED that isn't directly connected to your phone system.

A technician needs to make any connections to that block.

The documentation says that if the Auto set relocation is turned off Before the phone is plugged in, it won't receive the original programming.

You can pre-program all your spare ports with no ringing and that's how they'll come up when you use them.

It would be well worth the money to have a tech come out for an hour to clear up the grey areas for you.

Good luck.

I don't mean this to be rude, but Is it easy to change the default to the phone so they will not be defaulting to lines 1 and 2 when I set up a new phone? Where in System programming would I do it. The system I am working on does not have a graphical interface to it so I would have to do it through the phone.

If you have a modular ics with no other cabs it has 32 ports
how many phones on the system.

Sorry should have added that for every add on mod you will get 16 more dig phones.

I believe we have 48 ports on the system...and apparently a port that hasn't been used yet will default to assigning line 1 and 2 to the port..i just need to remove that :)

Awesome..I knew there was something missing in my life!

Thanks!

Try copying the programming for an existing set to the new set
