When I use my home pc,surfing the web, I see a quick flash of what appears to be a pop-up. It comes and goes so fast that I don't know what it is. I see it whether using IE or Chrome. It is always the same size and location. How do I determine exactly what it is? BTW MalwareBytes and Spybot S&D both say my system is clean.

Any suggestions?
Phil

start by looking at what is starting up with msconfig.exe.

Chris.

What OS? What version of IE? Does it happen in Safe Mode? What antivirus are you running, and did you do a scan with that?

Some suggestions:
Check event viewer for clues.
Run IE with no addons and see if the problem goes away
You can install a screen recorder like Cam Studio to capture the popup, but if if disappears as fast as you say this may not work.
Run MSCONFIG and look at the startup items for something amiss

@chris I will check that when I go home tonight.
@guitarzan Windows 7 64 bit, IE 11, Chrome Version 36.0.1985.125 m, McAfee antivirus w/ auto update, all scans clean. I'll try your suggestions when I get home tonight.

Thanks for the help. I'll let you know what I learn.

Phil

You could also use Chrome developer tool to record the network resources being used: that will show you the URL of the misterious pop-up

Cheers,
Dian

I checked services in msconfig and turned off 3 Soluto services. The issue seems to be resolved. I am no longer seeing the "pop up" flash since I turned these off:
Soluto PCGnome service
Soluto Launcher service
Soluto Remote service

Thanks @chris and @guitarzan

@diancecht I think I have it fixed, but thanks for the suggestion. I may need to try it sometime in the futre...

Phil

Check to see if you have Soluto installed on your machine. If you're not using it, uninstall it, and that should take care of the startups you found as well as anything else you can't see.
