Hi.
My XP Pro pc keeps runing chkdsk everytime it loads. I've got 2 drive, 1 80GB split into 2 40's C: and D: and 1 80 E:
CHKDSK keeps running on D: I've also tried to defrag it, but get the message"Disk defrag.. has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume: (D:)
Please run Chkdsk /f"
Any ideas on why and how to stop this?
Thanks
Scott

Start, Run, chkntfs /X C: D:

I was wrong, its still doing it. I did chkntfs D: in cmd and got this message

D: is dirty. You may use the /C option to schedule chkdsk for this drive.
Only things on this drive are images, downloads, videos and mp3s.

I've let the check run but still got the message that chkdesk is scheduled to run on the volume: (D:)
Please run Chkdsk /f"

Any ideas?
Thanks

You could try ChkDsk /r from the Recovery Console.

How to install and use the Recovery Console in Windows XP

How large is D: drive? Can you backup everything on it (a good idea in any case) to your other partition, DVD, or removable drive. Then perhaps a Format of D: drive.
You could then restore your backup.

The hard drive manufacturer will have free diagnostic software to thoroughly check out your hard drive in case your problems are more significant.

I did chkntfs /X C: D: and it still said there was a chkdsk scheduled.
