Hello, I am running CR 8.5 of an SQL 2000 DB.

I have built a report with 3 tables, including a subreport, with 1 of those 3 tables.

After a while, figured that we did not need the subreport any more. We removed the subreport, and now every time we run the repport, it asks us to select the machine data source. There is only one data source included in the report, and all other reports running of that same data source work fine. I tried to do a set location, verify database, all is ok, except the reports always prompts for the data source. One I select the data source, if I run the report again, il will never ask it to me again.

Any ideas anybody ?

Thanks in advance

Louis

What type of connectivity are you using?

I'd try changing it to another type (ODBC to OLE DB for instance) and see if the problem goes away (save the report under a different name just in case).

Then set it back to whatever it is that you're using, sometimes this gets rid of inexplicable nuisances...

I am only able to run the reports with an ODBC setup. We are running the reports directly from crystal, and are having the issue. There is no 3rd party or in-house application invovled.

Thanks,

Louis

How complex is the report? If it's quite simple then I suggest rebuilding the report from scratch. Sometimes Crystal does weird stuff with data sources that 'normal' fixes just don't fix! Can't explain it, I'm afraid, but I know that it will remove your prompting problem.

It is a pretty simple report. 2 tables on the main report, 1 table in the sub report, 2 different datasources.

But check this out, I run the report. It then prompts me for the Data Source with the Select Data Source box, if I do cancel, and do not select a Data Source, my report runs fine ! No data is missing, all is there, even the data from my subreport.

Very strange, what causes this select data source windows to appear ? My set location are all OK.

Thanks,

Louis

I assume that your ODBC is the Crystal supplied ODBC, not the MS.

I haven't seen this happen before...sounds like you confused poor widdle Crystal by nuking the sub.

If you're not using any newer features of CR 8.5, try saving it as a CR 7 report (under a different name of course) and see if that helps, I've cleared a few buglets this way.

Also turn off the Save Data With Report.

No luck with the save as to Crystal 7.0.

Also, I never use the save data with report option.

I am starting to think I will have to recreate the whole report, a few hours of work..

Any other ideas in the meanting would be of great help !

Thanks agains,

Louis

Under file, options, database tab, make sure the "reprompt user when connecting" checkbox is not checked.
