A friend is becoming crazy.
He is working on a catalog and place a lot of small tif files in the pages by «drag & drop» from the tiff files folder. He told me that after few minutes or when he re-opens the document the links are missing.
He is a beginner in InDesign but I teached him a few basics. He does not move or rename the folder which contains the tif files, he does not edit the tif files either BUT InDesign REPEATEDLY loses the links. He works on a Mac with OSX 10.4.
ANY IDEAS WHY??? I am becoming crazy myself...
Thanks very very much!!

It's me again.
My friend also told me that he can only re-link the files one by one. InDesign seems not to see all the files in a single folder to re-link them automatically...
Baybe the problem is NOT in InDesign. It may be the Operating System or... the operator itself.
Thanks again.

As eugenetyson said, it's always best to Place.

However, while the specific problem you refer to should not be a problem caused by the machine, you should be aware that, if the user is using an Intel Mac, CS2 is not designed to run on it. It was designed to run on the Power PC machines. CS3 is designed for the Intel Macs.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4 & G5

Thank you for your answer.
This friend of mine is using cs2 on an Intel Mac. That is the problem, I am sure. THANK YOU!!!
He have about 900 (very small) photos to place in his catalog.
In cs2, when you do «Place» you cannot select more than one photo at the time. The idea of doing «Place» 900 times is horrifying and would be too long. But you can select many photos at the same time directly in the folder where the photos are and drag and drop them directly in the page. This is the only way.
This brings me with an other question: Why is it «best» to use the «Place» command?
Thank you so much again.

Best dragging and dropping does not always produce a link in the links panel.

If you have over 900 images to place, the you should consider a script, something like image catalog or something.

you can search the site yourself for something more to your tastes.
