I'm building a new XP box and I'm looking for a free alternative to Roxio & Nero for CD/DVD authoring. The specific issue I'm trying to address involves making bootable CDs. I recently tried to make a slipstreamed XP-SP3 CD and the OEM Roxio 9 DE I have on another machine didn't seem to give me any control over adding the boot image so the resulting CD didn't actually boot.

Just looking for a free burning suite someone can actually vouch for from experience.

I've been using CD Burner XP. I really like it. As a matter of fact, I dropped my Roxio "lite", the version that came with my PC. You can download CD Burner XP from CNet's downloads.

Try using something like UltraISO, it's great at creating the ISO's and then burns them as well.

Admittedly I haven't had issues with Nero6 or 7 for creating bootable disks but I haven't tried with 8 or 9.

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.

UltraISO, while it is a fabulous app, it is not free...

I have to agree with CD Burner XP, will work like a charm...

I've run across some of those surfing but wanted experience based opinions from a community I "know". Sounds like CD Burner XP will be the starting point.

Thanks all.
