Hi,

Need an alternative to FTP that work with command line got any ideas?

Thanks
Mathew.

Windows XP has a built in command line FTP client that can be scripted and is very flexible.

If you need to upload files to or download files from an FTP server via the command line it is possible, it is just a matter of getting the commands right.

Although I haven't investigated graphical FTP clients, I'm sure that there are some available that can be semi automated to be run from the command line as a batch file or VB script.

Can you explain your situation further and I'll try to offer some more specific advice.

John

Hi,

Sorry shouldve explained a bit better we are currently using windows built in FTP cammand line package but get transfer errors and 9 times out of 10 it fails. We have been advised to use a different FTP package but it has to be command line based and cannot find any?

Thanks
Mathew.

Presumably the aim of this is to upload a file to an FTP server via a batch file.

My first aims would be to try and work out why the FTP uploads are so unreliable.
Do you have good TCP/IP connectivity to this server?

If the connection cuts out part way through this could be caused by any number of things.

Do the uploaded files not download properly at the other end? (check if the file is being uploaded in proper ascii or binary mode depending on its content).
Do you have problems logging in through the client script?

I'd be wary of using a TFTP server to upload or download files because of a lack of authentication within that protocol.

Hi,

Yes we need to upload a file daily to another companies FTP site, they got a network expert in from computercenter to do an investigation and he said that windows built in FTP tool is too aggressive and causing the connection to be dropped. He used FTP explorer to send files and that worked everytime but this isnt command line based.

It has to be done via a batch file that is why I am looking for a command prompt based tool. I have tried Putty psftp but that wont work.

I didnt think it would be so hard to find a command line based FTP client tool?

If someone could help me ASAP that would be great!

Thanks
Mathew.
