alternate row or group shading

How can I place shading on every other data row OR group please

If remainder(recordnumber,2) = 0 then crsilver else crNoColor

In the detail section expert click on the color tab and then the x+2 and enter the following

If remainder(recordnumber,2) = 0 then crsilver else crNoColor

No I have been trying this. The problem is the Group no. i have several group and also I only show the maxium record within a group. I I drop the group no into the report and take a look I can get data such as follows :

But I want to alternate the colour so 1 and 8 to grey for instance and the example I give is just random so I cant purely decide the colouring based upon this group no
