I have some laptops on my network using XP's Alternate configuration for getting onto our network. They use DHCP at home when they are plugged into routers, and the Alternate config assigns them a 192.168.x.x address in the office.

The timeout on the search for a DHCP server is currently 1 minute. Does anybody out there know how I could set this down to 20-30 seconds?

Check this out: Cheers,
Jim

I actually found that doc in about 10 places around the net, but it doesn't appear to have what I want, unless I'm not looking for the right field. I was expecting to see 'DHCP timeout' or something similar.

I have a few thoughts on the idea.
Could you maybe set the lease to expire sooner?
How about swapping the office config and the home config around?
How about a Gateway timeout, as in the article under EnableDeadGWDetect? If the gateway is different, the computer should detect it, and use alternate settings.
How about setting the TcpMaxConnectRetransmissions to 1? Would that set it to 30 secs, if 2=1 minute?
Just some thoughts that might lead you in the right direction. Cheers,
Jim
