ALT-SPACEBAR no longer returns from DOS to WINDOWS

I always used ALT-SPACEBAR to go from a DOS window back to Windows. It was faster than using ALT-ENTER as that just took me to a smaller screen DOS window from the full size one I was in, then I'd have to enter EXIT to get back to Windows.
Anyhow, ALT-SPACEBAR no longer works and I'd like to know why, and how to get that function back again. Anybody got the answer?

OK, thanks for that tip. Alt-Tab also takes me back to Windows, and I can do that key combo using one hand, however it also expands whatever I had minimized on the task bar.
Alt-Spacebar would take me back to windows without doing that.

The only thnig I can think of to suggest is running System File Checker SFC

Maybe someonelse has a better solution...
