I'm trying to make a picture that doesn't show the background, and I don't know an easy way to do it. Any suggestions?

What is the intended use of your picture? Web graphic? color printout? Are you trying to place it over another image in Pagemaker or Quark? Gif's work well with Websites, Tif's work well with Quark, but Pagemaker? Well, that's a whole different story...<br>

Assuming you are doing this for the Web, Adobe Photoshop has an export feature that lets you choose transparent color(s). Just go:<br>
file-&gt;export-&gt;gif89a

Erk has the right answer if it is used for the web. You must first go to mode&gt;index color. If you want a clean image use the same background color you want to put the image over. Then when you go file&gt;export you will get a window with an eyedropper on the bottom right. Use the eyedropper to click on the background and it will become transarent when exported. Your posting is so old that you must have solved this problem long ago. Writing this just in case you haven't and are still interested.

If you are using an older version of Photoshop (ie 4 or less) you may also need to make sure that you do not have a 1st layer with color in it. Basically, add a new transparent layer, send it to the bottom of the stack, then export it as a gif89a and follow as above. It seems that Photoshop used to accept an image with the 1st layer with no alpha to be not available for alpha in gif export

If you mean that you want a transperent/no background, in your image -- you'll find an 'Export Transperent Image' wizard in the Help Menu.<br>
First select the area that you want to make transperent and then go to the wizard.<br>
