When your sufing through your folders and you click on a link to a disconnected network link folder or computer....why does the entire window and system lock untill it figures out the path isn't there? Can you lessen the time it looks just like you can lessen the time for a program to end task?
 
there's a registry key for "WaitTimeToKillApps". just open regedit, and search for "TimeToKill" string. the time is usually in mili-seconds. the default is 20000 (20 seconds). you can shorten it.
 
Yea but that's to kill apps, not short the timeout to connect to a shared drive.
