Recently we have noticed Aloha terminals running XP running slow. Terminals running Win7 are unaffected. I noticed Explorer with high CPU usage but this is only on machines running WinXP. Sometimes there are 2 copies of Explorer running in the background.
There seems to be a connection at the kernel level. Has anyone seen this too? If Explorer is killed the terminal perks up and runs fine.

its basically because it is running xp. If you put windows 7 on these terms you won't have any issues. You should be thinking about switching them anyways as xp is really not supported anymore.

Not really sure if you're being sarcastic but I'll just expand on PosTech's comment.
There are a few things that you can do to help speed up the XP terms but it's really just putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound. The time it would take you to clean up and get the terms running marginally faster would be better spent swapping them over to win7.

Easiest way to speed up a slow term is to do a os reinstall, and if you're reinstalling anyways you might as well bump them up to 7. Lack of XP support isn't really a problem as the terms shouldn't be on an open network anyways.

I understand and agree with XP is no longer supported and should be replaced. That much is a given.
However this issue suddenly appeared out of nowhere and has affected many sites. All sites affected displaying the same issue with Explorer eating up the CPU. Sometimes there are 2 copies of Explorer running but nothing visible. Process Explorer shows this to be down to the kernel level. It is thought to be caused by 2 Win7 updates, KB3178034 and KB3177725, on the BOH.

Sites are always slow to upgrade, always have been. The 'band aid' for now is to kill Explorer running in the background. This allows the terminal running Aloha to run at a descent speed.

And now a new issue has come up with Explorer on a WINDOWS 7 BOH not running at all.

As far as I can tell none of my xp sites have the updates installed for whatever reason. (Probably time to update the firewall whitelist)
Looking at the scope of the updates it doesn't seem that they should be affecting your foh at all. Regardless, have you tried uninstalling the 2 suspects?

Other possibility would be virus/ malware or whatever. Are your terms online?

When those updates are found they are removed. Results have been mixed at best. I just didn't know if anyone else out there has seen the same things happening.
