Hi,

We have an Aloha System running 5.2. One of our terminal has crashed (hard drive). Is it posible to clone the other terminal and then change the name to the crashed one?

Thanks for any input. For some reason, I don't think the orginal tech left the install disks.

Thanks, Cynthia

As long as the other terminal is the same. You would have to change terminal name in windows and SET TERMSTR=(Old Name)in the Ibercfg.bat file. Or reinstall from scratch and run the Term Setup program.

This can be done, but with some caveats:

With cloning software, you usually need to have the same type of hardware available. On all but the rarest of occassions, have I ever been been able to get another PC to boot from an image from another hardware platform. And even then, you're stuck loading drivers, etc. You need to another PC of more or less the exact same model with cloning.

Touch drivers may not be installed on the same port. You may have to fiddle with these to get them to work if they conflict with comports needed by Aloha, betweent the two machines.

I don't know your level of proficiency, but this may be the kind of thing you want to call your dealer for, especially if you don't have the same hardware for your replacement PC. Hate to people spend gobs of time and money on things, only to end up throwing in the towel because the conditions were just to complex.

Best of luck!

Well that went pretty well. I used Norton Ghost 2003 to clone the IBM Surepos terminal (AMD). Then I loaded it into an old P3 clone with a HP Pavillion Asus MOBO. It booted right up! I attached the old touch monitor and loaded Elo drivers. I had to disable all the current touch drivers from booting at start up. I've changed the set term=2, the network name to term2 and it seems to be talking to the server after installing network drivers. Do I have to install the receipt printer on the computer?

I just need to load video card drivers and I'm pretty sure both terminals will work together on the network; one of the hubs is causing a problem but new terminal has already sync'd with the server.

In the past, I have taken the hard drive out of the server and installed it onto a new mobo before and both times its worked like a charm with a bit of fiddling. Thanks for the advice on how to change the name.

Cynthia.
