Hi, I'm using aloha version 5.2 I think. Can someone tell me what determines the starting screens for bartenders and servers?
I have seen that Aloha can be set up so they each have different screens, but when I go into Menus, even though they are in different revenue depts., any ONE change affects them both. I've even built separate screens, but I still have the same screen showing up for both. Thanks alot for your help, I'm hoping this one to be an easy one for you gurus!!

There are events such as set menu by jobcode/terminal, set server menu, set bartender menu, etc.. that allow you to specify MENUS.

SCREENS can be specified by using Floor Plan option in jobcode maintenance under Table Service and Hardware Terminal Maintenance.

Bigblok, you and Bo are ALWAYS on top of it! Thank you so much!

well that's not it. I've tried setting all kinds of events and it doesn't change. Everyone is still only able to access ONE menu. What else affects this? Obviously there is an universal setting that right now is the same for both the servers and the bartenders that is categorizing them the same so they are both viewing the same initial speed bar menu. Any ideas?

I usually use the event for "Set menu by terminal/jobcode". Just make sure bartenders are checked as bartenders and servers are not.

I've done that. The bartenders are checked as bartender, (servers are not) their job code is assigned to bartender and I even created a different access level called bartender. I created an event to switch menus for Bartenders to Speed bar and to switch servers to cocktail. I created events to have every terminal behind the bar (3 of them) run the speed bar menu by terminal and job code. I made sure in system settings not to have a default menu for either job code and when that didn't work, I set it to have a default menu accordingly. Nothing. When the bartenders log in, the very center of the speed bar has a button that says "server", just like the server menu, well I guess because it IS the server menu. Not sure what else I can do? Thoughts?

If you go into Mainentenance > Store Settings > Order Entry, you'll find a tab called "More Options." Go there and there will be a default server and default bartender menu.

You can set these to none if you like and set the menus by events as the others were saying (events will override this) or you can dump the events altogether and just use these options. However, this only works well if you have only one menu (i.e. static and not lunch or dinner server/bar).

Other than that, you have a some work to do.

1. Go to Maintenance > Labor > Job Codes
2. In the main tab, you'll find a field that is labeled "Group."
3. Assign a number to that job code. It's arbitrary. Usually, what I do is assign managers number 1, servers number 2, and bartenders number 3. Keep going with your other support staff...it helps.
4. In events, add a new event for each job code as "Set Menu Group."
5. Assign it as "Daily" and it will prompt you for the Job Group ( the number you assigned in Job Codes ) and the menu.
6. Do this for every job group that you assigned and for every day part if you have different day part menus.

Hope that helps!! :)

Be sure neither of them are set as cashier under jobcode. Also, be sure your system and DOB are correct. This can cause event issues.

Well that last little bit of knowledge sent by posknowitall turned out to be the thing that was holding up the whole show. I had the bartenders set as cashiers and they kept defaulting to the server menu no matter what. As soon as I took them off being cashiers BINGO! Thank you all for your help. I will keep it simple and just set an event at the beginning of the day to set menus by jobcode. I have static menus and only open at night, so it will be simple. Thanks again!
