Hey guys,

We are about to be switching from DSL to cable soon at our location, and know we are going to run into some network downtime while the cable guys do the installation. I know there is something called "redundancy mode" which allows the FOH terminals to run solo while the network that connects them to BOH is down. Is this trivial to turn on and off or should I call my dealer?

Thanks for any help!

As long as you are only turning 1 terminal into the Fileserver and all other terms still look at the one terminal then you will be ok. If you make all terms the fileserver for themselves then you will run into big problems because they will not be communicating with each other and sales will be all haywire. To be safe, call your dealer and they will be able to help you.

Why is switching to cable going to sever the file server from the terminals? The only thing that should happen, as long as your reseller did it right, is that you will process credit offline. This is called "spooling" which should happen automatically. Best practice...turn POS processing off (EDC) BEFORE they start unplugging stuff. Then, when you have connectivity, call your dealer and have them bring you out of spooling.

If, for whatever reason you have to lose the file server while they are cabling, like TJFman says, only ONE terminal. If you get out front while they are cabling and more than one terminal says "Make File Server," they pulled the cables out of the POS switch. Make sure all the terminals are communicating, find the master (the one saying "Make File Server"), and then place it in redundancy.
