I am working on a friends Radiant P1510 with Aloha POS. There are 4 identical machines in the restaurant. 3 work fine. This one boots up, lauches Aloha POS and works fine for about 25 minutes. After that, it shuts off. I can immediately turn it back on and it will again boot, launch and work fine for about 20 mins. The uptime slowly degrades with each boot.

In trying to correct the issue, I haave looked at the machines OS & events logs (Windows XPe) and I dont see anything abnormal. Thinking it might be the Power Supply, I attached an external AT power supply unit which yielded the exact same result.

Anybody have any solution ideas or recommended tests?

There are no maintenace contracts for the machines.

Thanks in advance for your help!

BTW, I have also already done the following in attempt to resolve the issue (forgot to include in initial message):
- replaced main power chord
- removed battery backup from connection
- tried alternate & grounded plug (on a different breaker)
- blew air on external components
- moved terminal to different/working location (same result)

Have you checked the CPU fan. Sounds like it is overheating.

Also check the capacitors - the 1510's have a problem with the capacitors ( they look like little round cans on the mother board, with a cross on the tops.) the tops will swell (they should be flat). When they swell they will begin leaking on the motherboard then ruin the board.

Cheers,
Coorsman

Thanks to you both for the additional direction! I will pursue both along with taking a can of forced air to the insides.

Coorsman, we have been told the cap problem occurred in early generation P1510 POS terminals (many PC mfg's had issues with caps) and that current P1510 models do not have the cap issue. Is that correct?

Bakins was right on - it was the CPU fan. Easy swap out, monitored the machine and she's been running fine since - includind the busy weekend. I also checked the capacitors, all ok on that front.

First time using this forum - 100% beneficial! Wealth of info here.

Thanks bakins and coorsman for the replies.
