I have checked the threads have not seen this answered yet. I have Aloha v5.3.4 running on Windows 2K in a small coffe shop. About 2 weeks ago my Aloha CC processing stopped using the Online connection to process transactions. The Dial Up Modem back up always kicks in to process CCs. This happenend in the past, but resolved itself over a day or so. It's nice to have the modem back up, but the transactions process take too long. Any ideas on why my system will not connect via DSL? I use ATT. IE and Safari browsing to the internet work just fine? I have tried rebooting the system. That did not solve the problem. As I sit here now, my modem keeps processing our transactions. Any ideas?

Are you processing over SSL?

IF yes, there is a setting in EDC (SSL Retry) that causes exactly what you are describing. If you have that setting set to 1 or more and SSL fails then it will retry X number of times before switching over to the Modem. It will not revert back to SSL unless POS Processing has been stopped and restarted.

read the debout.edc file located in the \aloha\tmp\debout.edc

In my above post I stated incorrectly. It will not revert back if SSL Retry is set to 0. If you use 1 or more it will Revert back to SSL after X number of retries.

When I open Aloha EDC, the items under the "configure" menu bar are all greyed out. (I cannot select them). So I cannot find the SSL setting. However, I went into the EDC.INI file under the AlohaQS/EDC directory......

SSL_RETRY=3
{VISANET] in this section.........
SSL=1

In my debout.edc file.....it says something like....."StartsSSLthreadandgetresult - Timeout 20 Secs. Shutting down thread

.....next line says....
"Could not make SSL Connction to host"

Again, IE and Safari both work to the internet.....

I tried stoping processing in EDC and restarting. However, when I stop the processing......EDC keeps running but the menu bar no longer works and I cannot restart. The only way to shut down EDC is to Ctrl-alt-del and kill the process and restart.

SSL_Retry is the correct setting in the Edc.ini for what i spoke of. Setting it to should make your transactions a bit faster. Set at three it is saying that it will try SSL 3 times before trying the modem and then not revert back to SSL.

It is possible that a firewall of some sort might be blocking your SSL connection to the processor. Check your event viewer security logs for errors.

Sorry, that was setting it to 0 or 1 should make your transactions process a bit faster. Wireless keyboards acting up.

I just checked my firewall (both of them). I have one Cisco PIX FW. I moved my connection outside the PIX and I still process over the dial up. I also went into my Windows firewall and disabled that firewall. Again, same problem. I did install a Registry cleaner awhile back. I am going to try to remove that and see if that helps.....

Sometimes after going into dial up backup, you may have to stop and start processing and maybe even the services.

If it worked before, and there hasn't been a processor change or anything major then it should be something simple like your firewall in your router as well as your computer, or the processor's firewall sees you as a threat. Call them, get their IP and see if you can ping it through the internet or follow whatever troubleshooting tips they may have to offer.
If it worked fine 2 weeks ago, my guess is a networking change is at fault.

if im not mistaken, cc companies are starting to turn off ssl processing for businesses that are not on a compliant version.

I would try un-registering and re-registering your services.
you will need to know the username and password for the current aloha account.

there are 2 bat files usually something like unregister_iber_5_3_4_.bat and register_iber_5_3_4__.bat
in the aloha drive that contain the commands to un-register and register the services. - right click and copy and paste to make a copy of them.

Edit the copy of unregister bat file and delete everything except
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Regsvr32.exe C:\Aloha\bin\EdcSec.DLL /s /u

C:\Aloha\bin\CtlsvrPS.DLL /s /u
C:\Aloha\bin\Edcsvr.EXE /unregserver /s

C:\WINDOWS\system32\Regsvr32.exe C:\Aloha\bin\EdcsvrPS.DLL /s /u

then save the file.

Do the same with the register bat file and delete everything except these 2 line - then delete the " /s /SNAME ***** and /SPWD **** " leave the/iberdir

example :
Before
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Regsvr32.exe C:\Aloha\bin\EdcSec.DLL /s
C:\Aloha\bin\Edcsvr.EXE /Service /s /SNAME OgU991N /SPWD 0PUVZ /iberdir C:\Aloha

After:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Regsvr32.exe C:\Aloha\bin\EdcSec.DLL /s
C:\Aloha\bin\Edcsvr.EXE /Service /iberdir C:\Aloha

Then add this line:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Regsvr32.exe C:\Aloha\bin\EdcsvrPS.DLL /s

Your aloha drive might either be C: or D:

taking out the /SNAME and /SPWD will prompt for a username and password for the aloha user on the server.

You need to reboot after then check to see if the service is running.

If you had the same settings and, edc keeps rolling to the backup modem, it sounds like you internet connection might be dropping packets. to check this, open up the command box then type ping -t . i usually ping like comcast or verizon. when you run the test it should keep getting replies back from the site you pinged. If all is well then you will see a constant reply from the site. If you have packet loss it will see request timed out. If it keeps timing out, this will definitely confuse edc. At this point need to call isp or check router.

also in edc, check to make sure process ssl box is checked or anything of that nature.
