We are using Aloha 6.7 and operations wants to start charging a deposit when someone orders a Moscow Mule to cover if they steal the mug. Does anybody have any creative solutions on how to set this up? We were trying to avoid using a comp or promo to get rid of the deposit. I could do a negative value item but that seems potentially risky and something we would have to keep a close eye on. Curious if anybody has any recommendations. I feel as if I am missing something easy.

How does reordering a Moscow Mule effect the issue? You'll need to be able to add deposit on 1st transaction but not on refills...
A modifier prompt "deposit, no deposit" each time Mule is ordered? Then you'll need a way to get rid of deposit amount... don't know if Aloha can void a modifier that's attached to an item, it may or not be possible. If not you'll need a negative priced deposit item to offset the positive deposit... then you'll need to track deposits vs. return deposits to make sure people are not using the negative deposit button to reduce check amounts...

One of our sites has a few 3D tv's. We loan out the glasses by charging the guest $10 on his check using a 3d glasses button. If the guest returns the glasses, we have a special void reason setup. This seems to be the easiest way for us. You can then track your voided items to see if any were stolen.
You can void a modifier item as long as it does not go below the required minimum amount of mods. So if the mod group is minimum 1, and the mug is the only modifer available, you are out of luck. If the minimum is 0, you can void it.

Just a thought if you have not resolved this yet. Make a new item with a negative price. Mug $10, returned mug -$10. I have one client who does this or bottle returns
