I recieved a thrown out Aloha Javelin wedge from a friend. However, I went to turn it on and was greeted by a question of find the file server. Do I need a file server? I'm not trying to use this to run a business, just to play with (I'm going to reflash it if I can, but I want to check it out first). Does anyone know of the factory default password? And, for bonus points, any manuals for it?

Thank you!

That is not a password request from Windows. The wedge has been on an Aloha system and that is Aloha telling you it cannot find the Aloha fileserver.

Restart the computer and as soon as you get to the Windows "splash screen" (after scan disk) press and hold down the "shift" key on the keyboard. (you must connect a PS2 keyboard to the KB port). "shift" during Windows boot will stop all assigned programs in startup so Aloha sill not start. When you are on the "desktop" and the cursor is no longer an hour-glass release the shift button.

You can now remove the shortcut to "Iber" (Aloha) from startup or from the batch file starting it depending on how the termianl was configured.

Have fun.

Cheers

Well, the thing is my girlfriend wanted to see what the software looked like. I can just Alt Ctrl Delete out of it to get back to windows, but she wanted to see what the POS software looked like. If that's not possible, then no problem, but she was just intrested. Thanks for the quick (and useful!) reply though!

When it asks for the password after a minute or two, the password is created by adding the two numbers in the bottom left and right corners of the screen. Enter the sum as the password, which will allow the unit to run in "stand-alone" mode for up to 21 days.
This should allow you to "play" with the POS that was being used on it before. You won't be able to configure it, or really do much, but it will give you a FOH interface to look at.

Awsome, THANK YOU! That is just what I was looking for. MANY THANKS!
