Aloha fileserver issues

Happy New Year's to all! I am hopeful someone can help with an ongoing issue: I have an Aloha POS, 3 terminals running in a restaurant/bar environment. The software is version 6.7.25, Term 1 & 3 are Radiant P1515, Term 2 is a P1220. All running Windows embedded. The BOH is a running Windows 7 professional. Term 1 gets the most use and on very busy nights it has the nasty habit of freezing up and then failing to located the fileserver. Term 1 is almost always the Master. I thought it may be a router issue because if I unplugged the router for 45 seconds +/- each morning before business it didn't have a problem. I installed a new router and the problems ceased, for a while. In the past the bartender would unplug the network cable, create fileserver and continue business. Then later that evening plug the network cable back in and fileserver/BOH would be detected and all would be right with the world. Then on New Year's Eve (very busy bar) it came back with a vengence. When the network cable was plugged back in it still could not locate fileserve and somehow corrupted the data. No fileserver and corrupted trans log/file folder for the day of 12/31/12. This issue only seems to occur on very busy nigts where a couple of hundred of transactions will take place. On quite nights with less than 75 transactions, no problems. Term 2 is used in a quiet part of the restaurant and has not had a problem. Term 3 is almost never used so we dont' know if it has a problem.

My service provider is trying to unravel the corrupted date files but they have been no help with fileserver issues. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Issues that crop up only during peak volume typically are linked to something dirty...power, network cabling etc. Have you run a constant ping test to analyze drops?

Thank you for your reply. I have not run a constant ping test but will give it a try tonight and see if it shows anything.

Any chance you can upload the terminal/server debouts and/or the event logs from the server and master terminal?

Thanks for help. This site lists me as a TechnicalUser which is a bit of a misnomer. I'm more of a practical user who can follow directions very well. If this is not what you are asking for just point me in the right direction.

What you want from the server is in the Aloha\TMP folder, the debout.svr file and on the terminals or at least the master terminal is the DEBOUT.20130101.01 from the same Aloha\TMP folder if possible

Here is the debout.svr file for the days affected. The DEBOUT.20121231 file from terminal is quite large (972 KB) so I didn't post here. If there is a specific time range that would help let me know. Or I could email the whole file.

You can upload the debouts zipped up and then just post the link. You do have some pretty nasty corruption going on that night. If Term1 is the master and it is "freezing up", it will cause the corruption. You can designate Term1 as MASTERCAPABLE=FALSE and SERVERCAPABLE=FALSE so that it will not be master terminal, this might help you determine if the issue truly is with Term1, the whole network, or the server. When you say router, are you talking about your internet router and is it being used as a "switch" to connect all your computers together, or do you have a separate device for this?

Dauphin2, the new router I mentioned is a stand alone router (separate modem) being used as a switch. All computers connected. However, Term 1 and Term 2 go through another switch on their way to router (due to building wiring). This switch is fairly new as I replaced it in an attempt to isolate problems. I've been running a constant ping on Term 1 with maximum bytes (65500) to see if I can recreate "freezing" but not during business hours. So far no freezing but I do have a 1% loss and dont' know if that is normal. I will attempt to post link for zipped debouts.

Definently looks like your gift cards - efrequency program on that terminal. Almost 8 min passed before the exception error cleared and started processing again.
I would first try to reinstall aloha on that terminal.I would first kill all the aloha processes and delete the aloha folder and clear iber in the startup folder in wondows.

Have your provider change term1 to term3 and term3 to term1
Since its hardly used.
Check/increase memory
Pickup a pair of network (rj45) csble splitters so you can run all
your computers off 1 network device .

Just make sure its a network splitter and not a data splitter.
Have that 1 cable tested to make all all 8 pins have good connection

Pickup atleast a 5 port hub for your computers and then from there to your internet router/firewall.

Check elecrical appliances used at Bsr to make sure on a different circuit else get a power filter

This may clear up/prevent some issues.

You could upload it to a free service like sugarsync, dropbox, mediafire, etc. You really need to look at the debouts and event logs on all the terminals and the server to really help narrow down the cause of the issue. Aloha is so finicky that any little problem will mess up your entire system. Technicians usually examine the debouts and when an issue is found, it is compared to the debouts from the other terminals at the same time frame. If event logs are provided as well, sometimes the issue is much easier to find. Some examples would be to look for browser, NIC disconnects, and other network related errors that occur on or around the same time issues show up in Aloha.
