Yes Aloha can run on Windows 8. The biggest road block is the Lana config to the network card(s). If you are confortable enough with registry edits this can be done. I attached a doc.
Haven't tested much on versions. I can confirm it works on 6.5 and 6.7. Just for aloha terminals. As far as an fileserver, I haven't gone that route. But I've got fileservers running on Windows server 2012 boxes, which isn't much different from windows 8 OS. Just had to get the correct HASP drivers from Sentinel.
