Being that many of us on here work for dealers, I am surprised no one has said this but that should be potentially be your biggest consideration.
Obviously, you'll need a certain amount of features, and everyone wants stability. And I certainly don't me to offend anyone, because you can say bad things about any company-but of many of the "bigger" systems, I hear stories about service that is both very expensive and very poor.
Believe it or not, I usually don't blame the dealers for that.
Being a VAR for these popular systems, they are under huge pressure to sell sell sell, and the most common complaint I hear is how its very hard for the customers to get the dealers attention after the sale. Sometimes its little stuff like training issues, or things that were never setup just right to begin with. And other times, it's bigger stuff, like going with a terminal down for weeks before the company can get there, or not getting phone calls returned for days.
My experience has been the following:
Within reason, people can live without a few features here and there, as long as the system is stable. In other words, I would not buy a system on features alone. From talking to clients, the most important factors (in this order) are:
1) Stability
2) Service from the Dealer
3) Features
And the first two are going to depend largely on the dealer in your area doing the install. So, find other people in the area that have the system you're interested in and ask them.
That's really your best bet.
