Hi,
I am running Aloha 5.034 and recently one of our Kitchen Epson printer stopped working. We had the Epson U200B (using the Epson 300 option in the Back Office) and we received a Epson U220 (newer one) from someone. I set the Printer up and selected the Epson U200 in the Backoffice as the printer option.

I set the DSW1 to 3,5,6 on (rest off)
I set the DSW2 to all off

This setup (per previous posts on this forum) should work but I keep getting a Printer out of paper message in the terminals even though the printer has paper, cartridge and seems to be operating fine. The same message shows up whether the printer is connected to the cat5 jack or not.

Any ideas here?

TIA,
CJ

Hi TJFman,
We set jumper 2 on on DSW2 and it we received the same 'Out of Paper' message.

TIA,
CJ

DSW 2 on switch set 2 turns the cutter on / off.

If you are getting a paper out error when turning it on you may have a broken paper sensor. Try doing a self test to see if that will print. Turn printer off, hold down feed button and turn the printer on, release the feed button.

That did not work either. We tried on two different printers.

I bought and tried a U200 printer as well - got the same message.

This seems to be related to the network settings - as the self test showed the printer does not have an IP address. The interface seems to be a Type III - but when I ran EEIUtil4.exe util from the Aloha BOF (wouldn't run from the terminals) - It is unable to find the device.

Any tips on how to get the network configured to assign an IP address to the printer?

TIA,
CJ

for Epson printers, there is a utility program that you should install and run on a Windows PC on the network. The utility will find the Epson printer no matter what IP it has and it will then allow you to change it in the utility. TMNet WinConfig.
Someone wrote it all up here:
Also, if you already know the IP of the printer, you can browse to it to configure it. The utility is easier.

Tbe printer isn't getting an IP assigned - it is getting 0.0.0.0 assigned so most likely the utility is not able to find the Printer due to that.

I will follow the instructions on that page.

Thanks,
CJ

You can reset the printer IP Card to the default 192.169.192.169 by holding in the reset button on the card while turning on the power to the printer.

Cheers,
Coorsman

I am working on this today - do I need to install drivers for the U220 printer? The terminals have Win98 and the printer would be connected to the com port of a terminal via an RJ45 cable.

Yes, an IP printer must be plugged into the network. You can assign it an IP through the TM software or browse to it if you know the current IP.
I don't know anything about how to connect it to Aloha, from reading posts here, it sounds like they make everything complicated.

can you ping the default?
try to ping 192.168.192.168, I think Coorsman might have said the wrong IP.

I tried pingint (using a tool) every IP in range and received no response.

the terminals have Win 98 on them? wow! Are these yours or you just trying to fix them for someone?
when you reset the printer it should print the IP and some other info.

The terminals have Win98 - I am trying to connect with just any XP machine in the office. The Backoffice is Windows XP and the terminals are Win98 (I know - I have to replace the system soon) - just trying to get through the next 2-3 months [smile]

When I reset the printer - it doesn't print the IP address. When I reset it and then press the feed button when powering up - it prints some specifications but no IP address details.

Holding the reset button for 3 seconds while powered on doesn't kick off any printing of any sort.

They are mine.

the IP reset button is next to where the network cable plugs in.
