Last I recall SIP is SIP and PRI is PRI, two different circuit methods with 2 different hardware types.
PRI- Dedicated T1 Circuit > a Pair Gain > PBX (DTI/PRI Card)
SIP- Internet > ATA > PBX Trunk ports or Internet > PBX with SIP parameters

Allstream sends our client this PDF info below and I am very curious as to what hardware they plan on installing for this so called SIP PRI, if anyone knows.
Special SIP ATA out via RJ45 to DTI card?

For the record it's Nortel/Avaya BCM50 R6 (that handles SIP programming) with a DTI card.

Save costs by integrating your voice and data network

Allstream's SIP PRI provides you with quality, reliable voice services. SIP PRI consolidates your voice and
data, securely into a single advanced IP network, reducing the complexity and frustration of managing
multiple connections. By enabling you to continue using your existing phone system, Allstream makes it
easy for you to cut communication costs without sacrificing voice quality. Our North American coverage
supports your distributed offices and enables effortless expansion into new markets.

SIP PRI allows traditional PBX systems to connect to the public phone network over an Internet service.
• Retain your existing phone system: No need to purchase a new Private Branch Exchange (PBX).
No expensive replacement of telephone sets or re-wiring required.
• Business Continuity: You can automatically reroute your numbers to a secondary location in case of site
failure, ensuring uninterrupted communications.
• Expanded Presence: Move into new markets without expensive equipment costs and use local numbers.
• No upgrades required: No equipment, software or license upgrades needed. No equipment to buy.
Allstream supplies the gateway device for your premise.
• Overall cost savings by eliminating separate networks for voice and internet.

I will probably steer them away from Allstream and just go with a SIP provider whom knows terminology.

Curlycord there are a bunch of ATA's out there that will do this. Adtran, Edgemarc are a couple i have seen recently. they will be SIP to the PSTN and PRI into the PBX.

Most likely its a SIP circuit that goes into an Adtran that hands off the voice service as a PRI and can hand off internet service separately as well. It's not that uncommon to see that now around here.

Adtran was actually the first thing that came to mind but posting anyway helps, never see one in person but I'm in Canada.

"whom knows terminology"
So as I thought, there is no such thing as SIP PRI but rather a SIP service with a PRI convertor as I would put it....truthfully.

Thanks all....case closed!

Second! for Adtran and EdgeMarc, did a lot of both back in my Tel/MSP days. For Adtrans' I usually deployed a TA900 series, for EdgeMarc a 4500 variant with DS1 ports.

When I worked there, they were deploying Audiocodes sip-pri gateways to connect to the legacy PBXs. They also forced you to go with their sip delivery system which amounted to putting an SBC on site (that's what the Adtran equipment was used for). It was a very good method of sip delivery as it was highly secure and provided a lot of service guarantees but it was also very expensive. Not sure if they still do it that way today but it was when I worked there.
