Don't know if this is possible. We have an Exchange server and another Solaris host which sends order confirms to customers via the Exchange server via relaying. From within Exchange, I have to set up a trusted domain for each domain we wish to send these emails to. aol.com, me.com and you.com. When I allow emails to be sent to aol.com (the only one I am afraid of) will that allow an open relay from anyone at aol.com??

What I ultimately would like to do if possible is to allow any and all email we wish to send from the host through the Exchange server. Like could I set up the ip address of the host somewhere in Exchange to allow all relays from that ip address?

Hope I made a little sense here. Thanks!
steve

add the ip to the allowed to relay list in IMC

is this under the routing restrictions button in the Internet Mail Service Properties? If so, yes I did that and will be testing this soon.....

I added the IP address of the machine that I wanted to allow relays from to the Routing Restrictions section "Hosts and clients with these IP addresses"

Still emails are denied unless I put the domain of the email address in the "Reroute incoming SMTP mail".

am I doing something wrong?? Again, all I want to do is send an email from a unix machine using smtp and utilize our Exchange 5.5 mail server for routing through our ISP.

I may look into publicizing port 25 of the unix machine and sending the emails that way and see what happens. Anyone out there do something similar?

Steve

I am still getting this in the logs.... I just don't think Exchange can do what I want.....

5/9/03 11:59:22 AM : <<< RCPT To:<mccllc01@aol.com>
5/9/03 11:59:22 AM : >>> 550 Relaying is prohibited

On my system a Goldmine server relyas emails via Exchange. I used the following settings in the IMS:
- reroute SMTP with your home domain set to <incoming>
- in routing restrictions check for "hosts and clients with these internal IP addresses" and enter the IP of your Unix server.

Did you remember to stop and start the IMS service?

Yes I restarted IMS. What I found out was this little trick..... MS Knowledgebase Article #258140 stating that when you enter this host's ip address and mask, make sure the mask reads.... 255.255.255."last octet host's ipaddress"

ex. Host IP: 192.168.1.162
mask should be 255.255.255.162

Strange but true....... It works...... Some domains we are hving some issues with like rcn.com, here we get
550 rejected: cannot route to sender which I am looking into right now....
