All tapes seen as cleaning

I'm currently we are using Bacup Exec 9.1 with Overland SDLT 15 tape loader for the Hardware. All the tapes are showing up as cleaning tapes. I have spoken to Veritas and Overland and so far no luck. Has any one had this issue before? I really need help no backups are going to tape.

Just a thought; sometimes I've set a tape library to use a dedicated cleaning slot, thinking I need to input the slot number. But infact I set the _number of slots_. So when I punched in 15 in the control panel, I infact reserved 15 slots, not slot number 15.

Have you done an inventory?

Have you checked the slots to see if they are marked as Cleaning slots? (Right click on the slot, select Properties and on one of the tabs there is a check box to identify it as a cleaning slot).

Thanks for everyones input. The tapes show up as cleaning after I do the inventory. The only slot that is marked as cleaning is 15. I have talked to Veritas and they sent me to Overland. After talking to Overland since 5/19 I was told to remove Backup Exec. and then reinstall it. I am preparing to do that now. I will let you know if that works.

I'm having this same problem with 3 new AIT 2 tapes I just bought. I loaded them in the library and inventoried them and they came up as cleaning tapes.. I can't for the life of me get them to read as data tapes. They just keep reading as cleaning tapes. Any help would be appreciated.

It is usually a firmware or device driver issue. If you want to verify that it is not backup exec go ahead and try to run a backup using NTbackup.
