Someone I know just purchased a 160 GB Maxtor HD, and only 130 of it is being recognized.

He cannot install SP1, so that's not an option.

He tried downloading the big drive enabler from their site, that didn't work.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

I would suggest that you try the for installation, partitioning and formatting instructions as well as valuable information concerning the size limitations per operating system, but I think you have done all these?

what size of hard disk is recognised by his bios????
did he manage to fdisk and format the whole hard drive in dos cos i had a problem with a 120G hard drive that my start up disk would not recognise the whole size so i had to download another start up disk with a newer version of fdisk on it to overcome this problem.
cannot post a link as i cannot for the life of me remember where i got it from but i do have copies zipped up if you post your e-mail address

cheers
