Hello, I have a Baystack 350 24T Swotch with a fiber module installed. It was working fine for 2 years. 3 days ago I had to power it down, when I powered it back on, all the lights on the system just flash. I do not know what this means or what to do about it? Does anyone have any ideas? I hate to trash this thing.

Thanks people.

Richard

The blinking lights indicate the ports are disabled, if you look at the ports under the "Switch Configuration" - "Port Configuration" menu what does it show their status as?

Thank you for your help. This switch stands alone now since I cant connect it to the other one via the fiber. Sorry for the dumb question but how do I check the status like you sudgested? Do I console into the system? I have not done that in years so I dont remember how.

Again sorry for the dumb questions.

console is the way to go, or telnet if you can do that via the fiberport, if it isnt disabled as well.
I believe the console settings for hyperterminal or something similar are: 9600 baud,8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, flow control:none.
And then just press Ctrl-Y and log on
(you might have to give it a few Ctrl-C as well)

-Cheers, Niklas

Its also worth noting that these devices use DCE (straight through) serial cables instead of the more common DTE (null modem) cables. Putting two null modem cables together would probably make a straight cable if that's all you've got available.

hello,
i have the same probleme,but just the diagn and 10Mps leds who Blink;
i don't know wich cable to use for consol, or any other way to access the switch(baystack 350t-hd)24port.
any help please
Tanks

bugsym,
I assume you mean the 'status' light is blinking, which means that a non-fatal error has occurred. It sounds like the ports with blinking lights have failed their self tests and have been disabled. You can test my theory by seeing if the switch will pass traffic between ports that are not blinking.

The 350 uses a "straight" (DCE) serial cable instead of a null-modem cable (DTE). You can think of it like straight verses crossover cables in ethernet. You can also refer to appendix F in the BayStack 450 manual, it uses the same cable.

hi anthonyanderberg,
all ports lights blinking, so can't test, i use the serial cable to connect via terminal and i have this:
ayStack 350THD Self-Test
CPU RAM test ... Pass
ASIC addressing test ... Pass
ASIC buffer RAM test ... Pass
Physical layer test ... FAIL
Port internal loopback test ... FAIL
Self-test detected a failure.
FE000000
Press RETURN to continue...
i do i reset default but no luck, now, i don't now wath to do!i'm not a specialist.
PS: some infor about 350 may be can help you ,to help me

Not that anything will help a hardware failure in the self test, but the Latest SW is V3.0.2

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Bummer. I've had all of the interfaces on an MDA do this but never a whole switch, if you've got an MDA inserted you might try removing it... other than that you might be in the market for a new switch.

Are all Ethernet cables un-hooked from the switch?

Remove all cables and all modules that the switch did not originally ship with and give it a shot.

If it still has the errors, it is likely hosed and will need to be RMA'd.
