Hi,
We are running into an issue with our BCM400. It has happened twice now that all 52 of our IP phones (mostly IP2002) are disconnected from the BCM and are unable to re-register. All other services seem to be working fine.
A reboot of the BCM was needed to re-enable the IP Phones.

Any ideas what may be causing this? Or at least what service(s) should I be restarting instead of rebooting the entire system?

Thanks
Graham

System is patched. I didn't think to check the logs but there weren't any major alarms (my phone is the alert set) and now they are cleared since the reboot (I paniced a bit since it was a busy time during the day for phones here).

It has happened twice in just under a month (first time was oct30 second was today).

Network connection to the same sites stays up, one IP phone is internal (connected to same switch as the BCM).

I would have a look at the other layer 2 switch. I've seen more than one cause this exact problem. Don'r know why but it seems to flush everything out. Because one of those ports is the uplink to the switch that the BCM connects to, you can't communicate with it either.

I think what happens when you reboot the BCM, the switch that it's connected to sends out an ARP message looking for which MAC addresses are associated with what port and that seems to populate the MAC address table in the failing switch (until whatever is causing this rears it's ugly head again).

Worth looking into.

Thanks for the insight. After checking the network we found it to be a faulty network cable coming from the switch - we will be replacing it during the next maintenance window.

Thanks Again
Graham
