All icons on my desktop turned to default error icon

What's going on here?

All the icons and shortcuts on my desktop are all showing an error icon. Although when I double click, it takes me to the right place.

How do I correct this so the icons are displaying correctly again? (example - internet explorer shows the blue "e".

Download TweakUI from

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

One of the options is to rebuild the Icon Cache. Do this and it should help.
