I cannot seem to get my HP9000dn to give me 9 lines per inch. The two most relevant commands (I'm working in PCL) I've tried are:

Setting the line spacing to 9 lines per inch:
Ec&l9D 027 038 108 057 068
This is ignored by the printer (9 is invalid?).

Setting the vertical motion index to 5
Ec&l5C 027 038 108 053 067
This gives me more like 10 or 11 lines per inch, and setting it to 6 gives me about 8 lines per inch.

Is it possible to set the VMI to fractions such as 5.75??

Advice grately apprecitaed!

Hi Les,
I have been working with the HP DJ 600 series printers and, I do know that the earlier versions of PCL do accept the fractional components of the CPI commands (eg : Esc(s16.5H ). I am assuming that the LPI commands would work the same. What language / DOS environment are you issuing the commands from ? The reason I ask is, my HP 920 gave me fits because I was send the commands from GWbasic to control the CPI setting and then sending the test string...
the result was, NO CHANGE in the CPI grrrr So, an hour or 2 later, it occured to me to send the CPI command and the test string TOGETHER on the same line and, IT WORKED!!! However, once I had written the DOS application, the printer accepted the command and anything printed after it was in the condense mode until the program reset it with the NORMAL CPI command (esc(s10H ). Good luck
