does anyone know how I can align the contents of a table so that each column is centred on the decimal point. I have tried setting decimal tabs without much success. Would be grateful of any advice

You need to set up a custom number format using ?,???.????. This will align all of the decimals onto each other for numbers between 0.0001 and 9,999.9999 if you want to have higher numbers or more deicmals, then just add a few more question marks (?,???,???,???.????????) :)

I hope this helps!

thanks - I take it you mean in Excel which I have got to work fine and I can of course insert this into my word doc but is it possible to do anything actually with a word table?

Now if you'd specified that to start with......
Not sure you can actually set formats for numbers in word

Hi tizwaz, in the Word cell, place a decimal tab at the right side of the cell. Use Ctrl+Tab to tab to the decimal tab. Enter your number. Now make sure you have enough space to show the numbers after the decimal point. To add this format to all the cells below this one, use Format Painter. Always remember that a regular tab moves you from cell to cell within a table. Ctrl>Tab moves you "within" the cell. The decimal tab looks like an unside-down T with a period in the lower-right quadrant.

Hope this Helps! :)
