Hello guys

I want to setup with sendmail 8.12.9, a system of aliasing such that:

if one sends an email to say 123xxxxx@mydomain.com it will be forwarded to central@mydomain.com.

eg. 1234567@mydomain.com goes into central@maydomain.com
1235555@mydomain.com goes into central@maydomain.com
etc.

Can /etc/mail/aliases file accept wildcards?

regards
Chris

Anything is possible

You would be better off using virtusertable. It is a lot like aliases but lets you use wild cards in a sense. Each line has 2 fields. The first can be an address or a domain. The second can be an address, domain or Return error. here are a few examples:

webmaster@yourdomain.com joe
sales@yourdomain.com jane@her-isp.net
@yourdomain.com fred

In the above example, The first one would go to a user named joe on your system. The second goes to janes isp account and note the bottom line. Anything not covered goes to fred.

ok, sisnce my system would be for hundreds of thousands of users, is there a way I can say all email starting with 123*****@mydomain.com go to central@mydomain.com
