Im having a problem in SQL2005 with job failure notifications. They are working at the moment (Im aware that agent sometimes needs to be restarted when its not working) but all the notifications are being sent via netsend instead of smtp. Is there some setting somewhere that forces it to use smtp instead of net send? Net send is not working for certain email accounts out side the network.

NET SEND shouldn't be used to send email notifications. You should configure the agent jobs to send emails. NET SEND is used to send popups to computers via the Alerter service on Windows.

Thanks, I know what NET SEND is for but that is what its sending the alerts through even though its set up to send smtp.
