Hello

I'm trying to get an Email alert up and running on a win2k server running ARCserve 2000 with SP4.

I have set up a user "backup" on the domain (it has domain admin privileges), I created a mailbox on the exchange server. I have installed Outlook 2002 on the server and logged in with "backup" and configured outlook. It works fine, I can send and recieve email.

I have set up the service account (Alert Manager) to the correct domain and user and password. Settings for Exchange are ok as well (checked case sensitivity).

I can "Logon to the mail system" with the profile I created.

But when I try to send an test email I get error -2147221231 and these errors in the alrtexch.log file:

[EXCHPSTR.DLL] Cannot open the default message store (80040111)
[EXCHPSTR.DLL] The store name is Private Folders
[EXCHPSTR.DLL] No Default Message Store

I have checked and rechecked the settings. On a different server (Win2k3) it works fine with the same account!

Could someone give me all the settings I have to check or permissions that have to be set?

I'm confused, all settings (I know are relevant) match on both servers. But it keeps failing.

Any thoughts?
Roel

The update requested Alert v6.0 and ARCserve gets shipped with Alert v4.0. Despite this I successfully ran the update.

The problem is not resolved, now I get the 80040111 error I got in the logfile.

Are there other updates I need to install before or after QO36911?

Roel

PS: Logfile isn't working anymore with the update installed.

If you are running Outlook XP (2002) sp2 then MS are due to release a hot fix that addresses MAPI issues. As the Exchange Alert uses MAPI to login this is potentially where the issue lies

Tnx xenotec

It could solve the issue, I hope so because I can't get it to work.

I removed ARCserve completely from the server (including all reg keys) and installed it again. To no avail, I can't seem to get a hold where the problem occurs.

The ARCserve user has full control on both shares (arcserve and alert) and folders.

When starting Alert Manager (or Service) I get this error in the alert Activity Log:

ShareDirectory NetShareAdd failed 0

From the above log it looks like it is using the incorrect profile. It should be using backup.
Can you potentially setup SMTP as an alternative with the new version of Alert? You would not be able to set it up via the ARCserve Job but you could have the Default setup in Alert Manager as a temporary work around

I have been looking for a new version of Alert but was unable to find it anywhere. Could you point me to the correct website?

It isn't available via download. You can get it off a Trial CD of eTrust Antivirus version 7 and install just that component.

I have now reinstalled Win2k, Outlook 2002 and ARCserve.

After each update I ran Alert again and indeed, as you stated before, after Outlook 2k2 SP2 alert fails to send the e-mail!

I'll do some more testing and post my findings, tnx for all the help!

I have uninstalled Outlook 2k2 with SP2 and tried to install a fresh copy of Outlook 2k2.

But the error remains! Maybe the uninstall does not remove the problematic MAPI files?

Is it possible to completely remove Office SP2?

Unbelievable!

I have removed Outlook 2002 SP2.

But now Alert Manager (and service) crashes when I try to send a test mail.

If I restart the service the mail is send succesfully. If I try to send another test mail the service crashes again.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

try to set the Alert notification service on a user account. Stop and restart it. Sent two testmessages again and see if it works.

I have been through the same Headaches as above and am not able to find a resolution. Any ideas?

Hi

I haven't found a good solution for this.

I have removed ArcServe completely and started working with NTBackup.

I had the same problem. It was resolved deleting mailbox in MS Exchange Server, and recreating it with Display Name same as Alias Name.
