Situation: I have to connect my Definity to an Alcatel PBX but not via a trunk. They want me to provide them 2 analog lines (to dial into them) and they're gonna provide two to get calls to me. It was simple to set up a hunt group and send them the lines and let them deal with it from there, but I don't know how/where to "plug in" the analog lines they're sending me to allow calls into my switch.

If this made sense to anyone, could you please assist? Thanks.

You should probably plug those into a CO card like a TN747.

Got it. What about a 2464 configured as a CO trunk and set to loop-start or ground start?

TCONN, thanks for the info, it's working. I only have one question now. Is it possible for my incoming destination to be any of my extensions instead of just the attendant or a specific extension?

Thinking outloud again!

How about you X port two analog stations. Place them into a Voicemail auto attendant and prompt people for the end destations. On the Alcatel side tell them to put an Immed forward of the calls that are headed toward you to the two X ported analog lines.

Hope this helps

I'm stuck all over again. I don't know how to use the dial tone the alcatel switch is sending me to dial into their switch. Any suggestions?

Please explain? Your pulling Alcatel Dialtone? Are you getting any errors when you dial a local extension on the Alcatel?

Thanks

Yes. I've got two analog lines from an alcatel switch that they want me to use as outgoing lines to them. Errors when I dial a local alcatel extension?....hell, I'm not even sure how to dial out over them from my Definity.

Has anyone heard of a "City Line" card or something like that? The Alcatel switch guy says he's using a "City Line" card to dial out over the two analog lines I'm sending him.

How are the Dialtones presented to you. Are they on a Demarc? If so you might have to PCO them to a special set. Or you can build a trunk group using a co line card in the G3. You would then AAR or DAC the trunk group and dial that way. I connect to an Alcatel but on a T1 level using QSIG. It took some trial and errors but it now works fine. You will have to test the trunk group soultion using DAC first. The siginaling will be the first hurdle. Wink start ground start immed start and stuff like that. When you are finished you're going to be the expert.

Hope this helps

The dialtones are cross-connected to a 110-block in my building and from there I've terminated them on the first two pairs of my co trunk card's corresponding 110-block at the MDF. I then assgined those pairs ports (06a1101 and 06a1102). The main problem is these guys I'm dealing with are Norwegian and their English isn't the best and my Norwegian is non-existant. They say they set up these types of interfaces all the time. We have talked about setting up an E-1 though.

The CO trunk card has a DAC correct? To dial out of the Alcatel do you dial 9? If so try the following dial string.

DAC 9-NPA-NXX-XXXX. This shouls trip the co line trunk. Then 9-NPA-NXX-XXXX will be the number you wish to dial from the Alcatel.

Give It a bash

can you email me the co turnk settings as I am getting the channels hanging when people disconnect from Alactel and it seems the Alcatel is not recognising disconnect supervision

You could set these up as a "personal co line" button on the phones that need to use them. That might make it easy for you.

all the calls some into a vdn so it would be difficult. I am sure its something on the Alcatel side, but its difficult to find an avaya and alcatel engineer.
